New case study on digitalisation financial service providers to serve low-income customers

Digitalisation is revolutionising the way financial service providers conduct their business. This new publication explores the answers to a question that many executives are asking: How best to digitalise a financial institution? The case study draws upon management consulting literature to assess digitalisation strategies in a pragmatic way. It also assesses three leading African financial organisations against this framework: Al Barid Bank, Morocco; Equity Bank, Kenya; and Consolidated Bank, Ghana.

This publication, prepared by Cheryl Frankiewicz, is the result of the HR Action Group's research journey to map out the current landscape of Human Resource Development (HRD) practices among microfinance institutions (MFIs), and to shed some light on the relationship between HR practices and MFI performance.

Passing away of Sachin Vankalas

It is with great sadness that the Board and the Secretariat of the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) have to inform you that our Board member Sachin Vankalas passed away on 15 July 2021. Sachin had been ill for several weeks due to complications associated with Covid. He was only 38 and leaves a young family. We are all deeply shocked and we are, of course, thinking first and foremost of his family.

Public Feedback round Green Index 3.0 & Dim 7 USSPM

The Green Index is the main tool for FSPs’ environmental performance assessment. It was developed in 2014 by the e-MFP Green Inclusive and Climate Smart Finance Action Group (GICSF-AG) and updated to the 2.0 version in 2016. This year the GICSF AG is updating the Green Index to Green Index 3.0 and SPTF, CERISE and e-MFP’s GICSF AG have joined forces to develop the Environmental Management Dimension (i.e. Dim 7) of the Universal Standards for Social Performance Management (USSPM).

With the recent rapid growth of impact investing and the accompanying concerns over "green-washing" and "impact-washing," the European Commission has been working on a package of regulations to ensure that impact and sustainable finance investments are carried out within a standardized reporting framework. This includes, among others, the recently published Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and associated publications.
