Identifying vulnerabilities - Insights from the IMPACT-R project assessing microfinance customers' access to basic services

The heads of the Green Inclusive and Climate Smart Finance Action Group are pleased to invite you to our webinar series this Thursday, September 9th, at 4 pm CET. We will be presenting the insights from the Impact-Driven and Action-Based Research project, IMPACT-R, identifying and assessing customers' vulnerabilities in regard to covered basic needs at household level. In particular, we will be sharing about the methods used, the role of digital tools, the experiences in field work, and most importantly, the "why" of this project.

To understand the vulnerabilities of clients to foster green inclusive finance, detailed household data is needed.

Within the framework of the IMPACT-R project (www.impact-r.org) access to basic services at client level of MFIs and NGOs has been assessed in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asia. Comprehensive data collection at the household and business level on energy access, water, sanitation, and hygiene and food security has started with 9 organizations and consortiums. Microfinance institutions, NGOs, and research institutions interested in providing data-driven solutions, whether by enhancing existing products or developing new green inclusive products and services within their organizations, have conducted field research within their communities in their areas of operation in Haiti, Colombia, Senegal, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, and Nepal.

Through the digital tools provided by HEDERA Sustainable Solutions, the data collection campaigns have gathered data on standard indicators to track the status of SDGs 1, 2, 6, and 7 and develop a baseline for each organization for future impact assessment, employing international frameworks from the ESMAP - World Bank, United Nations (UN) Joint Monitoring Programme, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. The IMPACT-R project is hosted by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Study e.V. (IASS) and cooperates with MFIs, NGOs and research organizations in each country.

Natalia Realpe Carrillo, Klaus Töpfer Sustainability Fellow at the IASS, CEO of Hedera Sustainable Solutions and co-head of the e-MFP Green Inclusive and Climate Smart Finance Action Group, will present an overview and insights from the IMPACT-R (Impact-Driven and Action-Based Research) project, upcoming call for proposals and next steps.
