The Heads of the e-MFP Green Inclusive and Climate-Smart Finance Action Group, Natalia Realpe Carrillo and Davide Forcella, are pleased to invite you to a webinar series this Thursday, November 11, at 4 pm CET.  Agustín Vitórica, founder and Co-CEO of GAWA Capital will share his experience on the role of social impact funds in promoting green strategies in the microfinance sector.

Transforming MFIs for a greener and more inclusive finance

Webinar by the e-MFP's Green Inclusive and Climate-Smart Finance Action Group

How can impact investing transform Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) to become greener and provide green loans to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and smallholder farmers? Traditional financial institutions have not served these segments and, as a result, MSMEs in Latin America face a financing gap of $900 billion, while the gap for farmers in the region is $20 billion. These gaps are the result of high perceived risk and the lack of adequate products, qualified personnel, processes, and technology to serve these segments with a green credit supply. However, if properly adapted, MFIs can effectively channel green finance to these two segments.

During the webinar, Agustin Vitórica will discuss how impact investment firms can design a fund to offer solutions to a specific market failure and blended finance can be a great way to structure funds that help solve a specific social and environmental problem. He will also explore how the Green Index can be used to diagnose the green status of the MFIs and how, with the support of the Technical Assistance Facility, MFIs can receive assistance in integrating environmental strategies.
