Call for interest: Organizer & Host
5th European Research Conference on Microfinance

1.    Background

Every two years since 2009, the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) organizes the European Research Conference on Microfinance in collaboration with European universities. The Research Conference is a unique event that gathers together high level researchers, academics, professionals and students ensuring that the latest research is disseminated to the whole microfinance community.

Previous editions:

The 4th European Microfinance Research Conference was held at the University of Geneva (Geneva Finance Research Institute), 1st - 3rd June 2015. It was organised by the University of Geneva’s School of Economics and Management and its Center for Microfinance and Financial Inclusion. The conference brought together 160 participants from universities, investment funds and policy making institutions of 24 countries.

The 3rd European Research Conference on Microfinance was held in the University of Agder, Norway, June, 10th - 12th 2013. Organised by the Norwegian Centre for Microfinance Research at the University of Agder in cooperation with the Center for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) and the University of Groningen, it gathered 250 participants from 35 countries and more than 180 papers were presented and discussed.

The 2nd European Research Conference on Microfinance was held in Groningen University, the Netherlands, 16th - 18th June 2011. Organised by e-MFP former Research AG, the conference provided a collection of 170 research papers, which were discussed by a public of over 200 researchers and practitioners in microfinance from all over the world.

The first European Research Conference on Microfinance was held at Université libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels, 2nd to 4th of June 2009.  Organised by CERMi in collaboration with e-MFP former Research Action Group, it gathered 250 participants from 50 countries and over 70 papers were presented.

 

 2.    5th European Research Conference on Microfinance

e-MFP is launching this call for interest to find a host for the 5th edition of the conference.

Interested organisations should submit a brief proposal (no more than 3 pages) containing the following information:

  1. Name of the organisation and department, if applicable
  2. Person responsible for organising the conference (name, position and contact details)
  3. Motivation to host the conference
  4. Proposed dates
  5. Suggested key topics
  6. Estimated costs for the conference, specifying what will be covered by the organiser and what needs to be covered by external sponsors (if any).

The deadline to submit the proposal is the 22 August 2016. It should be sent to contact@e-mfp.eu.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit additional information. Details will be provided.
