The 14th University Meets Microfinance (UMM) Workshop on Responsible Inclusive Finance and Customer Empowerment will take place on 14th - 15th September at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

Over the past few decades the microfinance sector has experienced crises on almost every continent. The role of client over-indebtedness has been highlighted as a contributing factor and has led to a strong movement towards greater protection of microfinance clients. Responsible inclusive finance requires the engagement of various microfinance stakeholders to find regulatory, institutional and client level solutions and strategies that ensure both financial and social objectives are achieved and that no harm is done to clients. Client protection is key to the positive progress of the microfinance sector, but it is the development of empowered customers through complaint mechanisms, financial education and business development services that will truly enable the base of the pyramid to benefit from inclusive financial services.

Over this two day workshop, plenary sessions, expert presentations, research from the field and open discussions will enable participants to delve deeply into the topics drawing on perspectives from around the world.
