Going to the African Microfinance Week (SAM)?
Following the success and positive feedback on previous trainings, e-MFP is holding two new trainings at the SAM taking place in Addis Ababa, 9 - 13 October:

Training for MFIs: The opportunity of Clean, Resilient business: training on green inclusive finance for MFIs, 9th of October

This one-day training organised by the e-MFP Microfinance & Environment Action Group and prepared and delivered by Enclude BV, will introduce MFIs’ managers to the various dimensions of green inclusive finance: socio-economic opportunities, challenges and environmental performance. Thanks to the use of the Green Index, and interactive case studies, the MFIs will be guided into the realm of green microfinance. Basic elements will be provided to support the MFIs to prioritize, explore and develop: environmental strategies, environmental risk assessment procedures, and green credit products.

The training is targeted to MFIs’ managers and all MFIs interested in green opportunities are welcome. It’s not a prerequisite to already have a green initiative in place - MFIs either expert or starting in green microfinance, are invited to join in.

All participants are encouraged to bring any relevant material (if available) with them to the training: e.g. Environmental Policy of their institutions, toolkits to assess environmental risks, flyers describing the characteristics of their green credits, etc.

Training for investment officersDue diligence for MFIs venturing into SME finance, 13th of October

In recent years, many MFIs have ventured into SME finance without adequate knowledge or experience, with various degrees of success. Some have effectively diversified into this new customer segment and have become effective financial providers to the “missing middle.” Others found themselves laden with bad debt and high losses. When conducting due diligence, it is critical for investment fund analysts to be able to differentiate between successful and unsuccessful SME programs.

This one-day training reviews the key issues that investment fund analysts need to be aware of when conducting due diligence of MFIs providing or planning to provide SME finance products and services. It will highlight the characteristics of SMEs in comparison to micro entreprises, how to assess SME loans, the procedures that should be in place within the institution to serve this segment, the specific risks of the SME sector and the main challenges for the organization at all levels.

Registration conditions:
Anyone who wishes to register for this training must have previously purchased the entrance ticket for the African Microfinance Week (SAM).
